An end of the year supper by a banker and his friends, is interrupted by a sudden assault by a known delinquent, fleeing from the police in Havana in the fifties. Some of the names of the people that have participated in the realization of Seven Deaths for Certain, will be remembered as those that placed the first solid block towards the building of the national film industry. Before this film of Manolo Alonso, in Cuba there had been intentions more or less intentionally happy or unlucky, some of which were-"I am Hitler"- made by Alonso, himself;but with "Seven Deaths for Certain" you can surely say that the true cuban film industry is born, conceived not like a photographic adventure of picturesque character but more like a serious attempt of industry and art, business and science, whose central conflict finds itself in the middle between the appetite and the urgencies of the box office of the production, and the imperatives of the technique and the demands of the esthetics. A very difficult problem for the newly born film makers and towards which, until today, had not found any solutions in Cuba.
